HarmonyOS Next is confirmed to arrive on October 22

Huawei’s next big thing HarmonyOS Next is finally confirmed to arrive on October 22. As we already know, this is the company’s biggest attempt to ditch the Android-based apps and develop an independent ecosystem. It is a full-stack self-developed system base that abandons the traditional AOSP code and only supports the Hongmeng kernel and Hongmeng system applications, making it an independently controllable operating system originating from China.

The company claims that more than 10,000 apps and native services have been developed specifically for HarmonyOS Next. It is expected to dominate the Chinese market single-handedly in the next few years.

It is worth noting that Huawei first launched HarmonyOS as an Android alternative for the Chinese market in August 2019. This decision came after the US government added the Shenzhen-based company to a trade blacklist that blocked it from buying US-originated technologies without Washington’s approval. Hence, the company wants to reduce its reliance on US companies like Google attempting its own ecosystem.

In addition, the Nova 13 series of mobile phones will also be launched at this conference. According to leaks, the series will launch at least three models at the same time, namely Nova 13, Nova 13 Pro, and Nova 13 Ultra. Among them, the standard Nova 13 uses a flat display along with a new Kirin chipset under the hood.

Meanwhile, Nova 13 Pro and Nova 13 Ultra are expected to be equipped with Kirin 9010 processor, the same chip we have seen in the Pura 70 series and some other Huawei flagships. Overall, HarmonyOS Next is the highlight of this even and we may hear some annoucemnet related to Mate 70 series, which will bring HarmonyOS Next out of the box.
